Community
Hi - I noticed there hasn't been any activity but I am posting this just hoping that some of you still have this community on your friend's list.

My girlfriend and I are planning on moving from Detroit to the Oshkosh area, in Wisconsin.

We are struggling to find anything online about an LGBT community. We're also unsure about just how conservative the area is. We've always been out with no difficulty in Detroit, but we're not really sure what to expect moving to a less urban area.

Any tips, information... or anything really would be welcome. It is difficult moving in blind to a city we've never even visited before!

FRIDAY, JUNE 25, 2004
Returning for it's third year, the Pride Block Party promises to be bigger than ever! Following a 2003 sell out, the Block Party will feature The Psychedelic Furs and Sandra Bernhard this year. They will be preceeded on stage by an all-star lineup of local and regional acts, including The Soviettes, The Aluminum Group and Lisa Jackson.
Once again, the Block Party will be at the Ritz Lot in Downtown Minneapolis. The Ritz Lot is located at 4th Street and Nicollet Mall, across Nicollet Mall from the Minneapolis Library construction site. Light rail transit serves the site with a Hiawatha Line station only one block away at Nicollet & 5th.
The Block Party will be open to everyone 18 and up. For your enjoyment, a selection of beverages and cocktails will be available, as well as a number of food options. In addition, a number of carnival-style games will be available all evening long.
The Psychedelic Furs
From the late 1970's into the 90's, the Psychedelic Furs earned tremendous respect from critics and fans alike for their music's mix of punk rock, poetic lyricism and seductive rythmic hooks. Fronted by vocalist and chief songwriter Richard Butler, the Furs built a reputation as one of the most riveting musical forces to come out of the early 80's post-punk, new wave era.
Together again, after a decade-long hiatus, the Furs are aggressively and enthusiastically charging ahead. In addition to live shows in both North America and Europe later this year, the Psychedelic Furs will begin work on their first new studio album in over a decade.
With a career spanning the rise and fall of punk, MTV, glam metal, grunge and hip-hop, Richard Butler is happy to be in a position to communicate with an audience. "As long as people who enjoy music and have fun going to shows, there'll be a place in the world for artists who try to do something interesting and different," he says.
Additional information on the Psychedelic Furs can be found on their site.
Sandra Bernhard
Born in 1955 in suburban Flint, Michigan, comedienne/actress/vocalist Sandra Bernhard began honing her skills as a stand-up comic at age 19.
Barely in her twenties, Bernhard decided to move to Hollywood, where she had no problem landing gigs at local comedy clubs. Her first real professional experience came when she landed a regular spot on the Richard Pryor Show When that was cut short, she headed back to the clubs, where growing audiences returneed week after week to laugh at her monologues on spirituality and sexuality.
In 1983, she appeared opposite Robert DeNiro in the Martin Scorsese satire, King of Comedy. Other roles followed, including one opposite Bruce Willis in the commercial flop Hudson Hawk and a cameo in Madonna's Truth or Dare.
Though busy with film, Bernhard found time to develop as a vocalist, releasing her solo debut, I'm Your Woman in 1985. The critical success of the album prompted Bernhard to try her hand a theater, and in 1988 she appeared in her own off-Broadway show titled Without You I'm Nothing. The show was later made into a movie and the soundtrack followed shortly thereafter.
She headed back to theater in 1998 with I'm still Here...Damn It!. This time appearing on Broadway, Bernhard received stellar reviews for her performance in the one-woman act and released music from the performance later that year.

Featuring three stages of all-live entertainment, three food courts, beer gardens, a Children's & Family area, canoe rides in Loring Lake and the GLBT History Pavilion, you can spend two full days at the festival and still not see everything! The festival is free for everyone to attend, with no admission charge. Be sure to check out the Attractions page for more information about these and other features of the Pride Festival.

Hours & Location
The Pride Festival is located in Minneapolis' Loring Park, in the southwest corner of downtown. Please check out the maps on the location page for more location information.
The Festival will be open on Saturday from 10am to 10pm and on Sunday from noon to 6pm.
Mass Commitment Ceremony
New for 2004, we will be hosting a Mass Commitment Ceremony at the Loring Stage. The Ceremony will take place on Sunday afternoon (June 27). Check the schedules for the exact time. With the attention that Marriage Equality is receiving in the mainstream press, this is a great way to show your support for full equality for all people!
Entertainment
The festival offers multiple venues adjacent to the food courts. The centrally-located Loring Stage, featuring emcee T'Nea, will host the Opening Ceremonies, nationally-renouned entertainer Paul Lekakis, the Twin Cities' own Michael Steele, the Mass Commitment Ceremony, prominent politicians, as well as other regional and local performers.
For the absolute best in Twin cities music and dance, you can settle in at the Rainbow Stage, in the southwest corner of the park, where live performances by Skirr, Running on Empty, In Pictures, Bob Moore, cast members from La Cabaret and others are featured. Your hosts for the weekend are Julie Dafydd and Michael Hill.
The Stonewall Stage, in the southeast corner of the park, features drag revues and music, 100% of the time. Featured performers this year include CheerDorthyCheer and weekend host Augusta Wind.
For detailed lineup information for all the stages, please visit the Schedules page.
Fireworks & Headline Entertainment
On Saturday evening, headliner Paul Lekakis will perform on the Loring Stage, followed by the largest fireworks display in Pride/Twin Cities history! The fireworks display takes place over the lake in the center of Loring Park, and the best viewing locations are along the shorelines.
Children's & Family Area
In this area of the festival, you will find many vendors who are themed for families and children, a picnic area and a variety of entertainment for the little ones.
Beer Garden, sponsored by Bud Light
Due to city ordinance, all alcoholic beverages must be contained in a fenced area. The Pride Festival sports a Beer Garden where a variety of adult beverages may be purchased, in a addition to a variety of food items. You must be 21 or older to enter the Beer Garden, everyone will need ID. Admission is $1 for the whole day; this money goes to help defray the huge costs of the Pride Festival.
Pride Coffeehouse
Guests enjoy a relaxing visit to the Pride Coffeehouse and listen to a variety of live entertainment. The Pride Coffeehouse offers a variety of hot and cold beverages and snacks.
History Pavilion
The History Pavilion will be returning this year to its traditional location in the large, newly-remodeled park buidling on the east end of the lake in Loring Park. Featuring exhibits from the wolrd-renoun Tretter Collection, this is a great opportunity to learn about the history of the GLBT community and movement. Only by learning the lessons from the past will we be able to meet the challenges of the future!
